For many music is a social activity but most of the big streaming services don’t really reflect this. The return of Turntable·fm may fire the discussions once more.

Remember when Spotify let you send messages to friends and others? Well you could once. Turntable·fm is a relic from much earlier in the days of streaming services, when the blossoming services were still working out their approaches and how social these services could be.

Turntable·fm was a streaming service that was as much centred on chat rooms and personal profiles as it was the music on offer. Unfortunately it didn’t carve its way to success and shut down but now it’s looking to return in a new musical landscape and when people are looking for more ways to connect.

Some of the team’s original creators, including founder Joseph Perla, are on a campaign to bring back Turntable·fm . They’re currently raising money for its resurrection and have already surpassed their goal of $100,000.

The team are offering early funders exclusive benefits on the platform for when it does return. For example, a $1 contribution offers early access and 20% off a future subscription whilst a $20 donation provides a 50% discount all the way up to $1k which exclusive extras like a Gorilla avatar to use on your profile.

As you can see, the creators have gone in on the virtual platform to create a digital venue where music lovers can hang out and enjoy music together whilst chatting and bonding over the music.
